Abstract

Dear Editor:

Amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) is considered a medical emergency that occurs suddenly and can lead to the death of both the mother and the newborn. It is currently defined as anaphylactoid syndrome of pregnancy and is considered the most serious complication of childbirth and the immediate postpartum period, with a mortality rate of 80 %. The incidence of amniotic fluid embolism is one case per 14,000 to one case per 37,000 births.
